In the stunning setting of Sherborne Abbey they present Rachmaninoff’s powerful and hypnotic ‘All-night vigil’ – a luminous choral tapestry that draws upon Orthodox chants from the Znamenny tradition, Greece and poignantly from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. This magnificent sacred music composed during the turmoil of the Great War held special significance for Rachmaninoff. In this work he breathed new life into his unique choral heritage.
