A short service to remember the Fallen in War takes places in the Abbey on the third Friday of each month, starting at 11.00 am.

Following prayers, a member of the Devonshire & Dorset Regimental Association reads the names from one page each of the two Dorset Regiment Books of Remembrance, the Sherborne Book of Remembrance and The Rifles Book of Remembrance.

The service concludes with the Last Post, Two Minutes’ Silence, Reveille and Blessing. All are welcome.

The All Soul’s Requiem list is now on the table at the back of the Abbey for you to enter the names of those you wish to be remembered on All Souls’ Day.

The Requiem Eucharist will take place on Saturday 2 November 2023 at 10.00 am in the Abbey.

Half an hour of prayer, meditation and music – 2^nd Sunday each month, 6.30 pm, Cheap Street Church.

This informal, ecumenical service, based on the Taizé Community’s worship founded by Br Roger in Burgundy, France, now attracts thousands of young people each summer. Taizé music has become part of the worshipping life of churches worldwide. Everyone welcome.

No service in August and December.

Why not arrive into Sherborne by steam train and attend this Carol Service at 2.30 pm in Sherborne Abbey.  All are welcome – free to attend the service.

This day trip by steam train provides a unique opportunity to visit either the picturesque market town of Sherborne in Dorset at Christmas time, or the Yeovil Railway Centre. The special train will be hauled by Merchant Navy class steam locomotive No. 35028 Clan Line.  It starts from London Victoria Station and picks up more passengers at Staines, Woking and Basingstoke. Take a break prior to Christmas and treat yourself to a memorable day out with a difference.

The main destination for our train is Sherborne, one of the most beautiful towns in England. The historic market town, where King Alfred was educated, will be decorated for Christmas. It has much to offer visitors with its abundance of medieval buildings, superb Abbey, picturesque Almshouse, the ruins of a 12th-century fortified palace, and the 16th-century mansion known as Sherborne Castle. It has a delightful shopping centre with a large choice of handcrafted goods and elegant fashions and has become an important town in the region for Art and Antique Dealers. Whilst at Sherborne, why not join in the traditional Christmas Carol Service specially arranged for our tour and held in the splendid surroundings of its ancient Abbey.

Christmas Concert – Carols, music and song!

This is a delightfully quiet, reflective time just before Christmas for those who find the busyness of this season a struggle.  Anyone can come.   You may be thinking of a loved one especially at this time or it may simply be that you feel that a little oasis before the big event may benefit you and put the time of Christmas into its right perspective.  Whatever your situation, this service allows us all to draw near to God to steady, refresh and still our hearts for the coming of Christ.  A Quieter Christmas will take place in the gentle light of The Lady Chapel.  Please come and join us to be blessed in God’s presence and to bend the knee at the entrance of the stable.
